Woodland Floor

Lovely to walk through the woodland into the swathes of bluebells and then into the thick pine forest this morning.

Back into the Forest of Dean seemed like a good call but the light was disappointing. A good proportion of our time was spent playing with the dor beetles on the mossy floor which must have just come out of hibernation. I just loved the metallic blue of their bodies which you at first glance thought was black. It was incredibly dark and they would insist on ambling around and catapulting off the tree trunk on which Hubs had carefully placed them for their photo-shoot. A flash would have been ideal but there was only so much you can carry.

This all was followed by an impromptu lunch at the Speech House Hotel. A very satisfying way to spend a Bank Holiday Monday.
