Close to the edge...
...round by the corner...
Had a lovely evening with my partner and a couple of friends from uni, seeing Yes play at Birmingham Symphony Hall.
They're doing a tour playing three of their albums in their entirely and in sequence (Close to the Edge, Going for the One and The Yes Album). Plus Roundabout from Fragile for the encore.
The current line-up includes a new singer, Jon Davison, not an easy role as Yes's signature sound has largely been down to Jon Anderson's voice (their original singer who had to leave due to ill health a few years ago). I must say I thought he did a great job, singing some pretty challenging stuff without just being clone of Anderson.
The whole evening was magical. Those albums are 30-40 years old and yet they still sound fantastic, moving, and I got well and truly lost in it for most of the gig.
They were using a fairly minimal stage show, just some varilights and the big screen, but combined with the architecture it looked fantastic, too.
This shot was taken during Close to the Edge (the track), the iPhone's HDR setting doing a pretty good job of cutting through the glare of the lights.
