Street Tailors
There are a couple of strips on one of the main streets in Blantyre where you can bring along sewing for repair or can get new clothes made. I have been trying to capture these tailors for quite a few days because they are amazing. They use ancient treadle Singer sewing machines - just like the one my mum used to have.
In the photo you can see the man on the extreme left behind his machine, while on the right of the picture there is another machine standing idle. Behind that, up on the wall there are some completed garments. The woman in the centre of the picture is doing some. hand sewing repairs. In the foreground there are some vegetables for sale because all along this street is a fantastic fruit and veg market.
