Home & Away

Goodbye, Santorini!

This was my plane to take me back home to the UK.

It turned out to be another beautiful day, although it started out so foggy I couldn't see a thing beyond the rim of my balcony. The fog had started rolling in last evening and it reminded me quite a bit of the San Francisco fog, rolling over the mountains. I was tempted to use a morning fog picture as my Blip today, but it was literally nothing but grey. Not very interesting, but at least illustration that even in Paradise (on earth, anyway) there is bad weather!

easyJet - even though it is a very different airline than the one I work for, I have a great respect for them and how they do their business and the success they have at running this low-cost airline. They are what they are, and they do a very good job doing what they do. "It does exactly what it says on the tin"! (I love that British expression!)

I had a very good flight there and back and on the return flight I actually got a chance to talk at length with the crew. The 'Cabin Manager' was a 'mature' woman (like myself!) which surprised me, as I had the perception that their Flight Attendants were all quite young. She had worked for another airline before easyJet, (also the product of a merge) and said that easyJet were doing very well and that they were generally quite happy working for them.

What is always amazing, even to me, is how we can all do basically the same job, and yet so much differs from airline to airline that it is hard to even have a conversation with one another. We got to talking about scheduling, time off, career options etc., and the differences in procedures, definitions and verbiage were so huge that we could hardly understand each other. The 'public' often mistakenly assume that how we get paid and how our schedules work is pretty similar across different airlines.

It was good to be home, even though I had a wonderful holiday! I took Dolly for a walk in the evening and enjoyed the lush green fields as well a stunning sunset - a good match for any sunset in the Greek isles!
