Thorns in my way

This bush is on the path down our back hill. I don't know exactly what it is. I thought it was " crown of thorns". But Google says that is a succulent, and I'm not sure this plant is one.

The thorns are very strong and sharp. I could easily see someone using one as a needle.

It looks like a trap. Or maybe there is a way out, if you move very very carefully.
