Strangulation.
When we moved into our current home some years ago this pine tree had been newly planted. The ivy beside it was a ground cover creeper for the garden but it grew out of control over the ensuing years.
It had now reached the stage of gradually strangling its host, the pine tree. The tree had started to bend under the weight of the ivy and it appears that its days are numbered.
Note the "Three Sisters" poking their heads our toward the sky.
The last gasp.
