The new flower bed

It was a productive half day in the sense that I had a couple of reasonable meetings, one with a colleague to discuss a few matters pertaining to a golf course, though I think I could have got the message in half the time. He's a talker that one. The other was to flesh out our plan of action for my assistant to deal with her training needs.

I got some other essential work done and then at lunch headed straight to the garden centre to finally spend my vouchers (and the same again!) on perennial plants and shrubs to fill the new bed. I wisely took a list and came away with most things on it and a few more...

I grabbed a bite to eat from Waitrose next door and hurried home. I immediately got into my scruffs and laid everything out as I wanted it and according to whether the plants like full sun or partial shade in the new bed. I cracked on with planting up in the lovely sunshine. I know if I'd even sat down for one moment or gone in for a cup of tea I would never have finished it and it wouldn't have got done for months. That's what I'm like. So I have to strike while the iron's hot...

So here it is, my new flower bed in all its shiny new glory. Amongst other things I've planted lupins, an ornamental grass, pink scabacious, a spirea, euphorbia, a hebe, plenty of alpines near the rock wall, including some thyme and saxifrage, and a mound of aubretia in honour of my wonderful Grandpa who was a keen amateur gardener and whose garden had lots of the stuff.

Here's hoping that, with some care, it will fill out and thrive and be a nice backdrop for the patio table and improve the view from the sitting groom.

I do now have my feet up but will grab a shower and then think about some dinner soon.
