Lake Constance (Bodensee)

A leisurely breakfast was followed by a walk around Romanshorn. Saturday morning, where are all the people, the town was deserted, it was like everybody had left for some reason. I may have mentioned yesterday this is not the most attractive town in the world, this impression was confirmed today.

We booked ourselves on an afternoon tour of the Lake. Constance is shared between Germany, Switzerland and Austria, though most of the lake is in Germany. Most of our lake tour was in Germany. Having lingered over breakfast we were too late to get the morning boat, so we were unable to disembark anywhere as this four hour cruise was the final sailing of the day. Car ferries cross the lake from Romanshorn into Germany through the evening.

The most attractive town we saw from the boat was Meersburg, shown in the photograph. It would have been well worthwhile spending a few hours here. Our ship was shadowed from time to time by a dirigible. I took a flight on a dirigible many years ago near Rome when there was one based there.

Our boat returned to Romanshorn at about 18:15. The weather was not great and threatening rain so we returned to the hotel for another expensive dinner. A wedding reception was taking place in another part of the hotel but although it continued until about 03:00 the following morning we were not disturbed.
