The Millennium Bridge Castleford
This is across the River Aire at Castleford and was built in 2008 It is solely a footbridge because before it was built people had to walk across the Aire on the Road Bridge which has a narrow footpath and rather dangerous.
This Bridge has places to sit, and you often see folk just sat chatting or having the odd sandwich for lunch.
At night it's well lit for people crossing.
When I go down to Castleford to shop I get off the bus nearby and often cross over the road and walk on the bridge to look at the river.
The Flour Mill on the left once belonged to Allinsons but is now being turned into a Heritage Centre. the old barge under the bridge on the right has been there as long as I can remember, it must have broken loose many years ago and come over the weir only to get stuck forever. They didn't bother moving it when they built the bridge it's part of history.
The confluence of the River Calder and the Aire is just a short walk further up river and as they merge they become the Aire and Calder Navigation River and Canal the latter bypassing the weirs.
