Thomas Glover

Glover was born in Fraserburgh and educated there and Aberdeen. Joined trading company Jardine Matheson who recognised his ambition and drive, and posted him to China to trade green tea.
He moved to Japan, built a hugely successful and influential career, and was key in opening trade with Britain. He commissioned the first Japanese Navy warship which was built in Aberdeen. Glover's company in time morphed into Mitsubishi.... And that is why there is a photo in a Fraserburgh chip shop of Mitsubishi executives and Alex Salmond !
