Generosity, Greed and the Greater Good
I attended the TEDx event : "Generosity, Greed and the Greater Good" today.
The speakers explored the themes of altruism, benevolence, volunteering, selfishness and greed. The speakers were from different backgrounds: from the charity sector, psychology, neuroscience, business, banking, and so on. It was a very well-organised event and brought forth some interesting ideas.
Some of the take-away messages were:
-greed can be exhausting
-generosity is good for health and happiness
-giving money is not necessary - giving one's time is the most generous act
This is one of the two videos that was screened as a part of this event. Effective Altruism.
As soon as the videos of today's live talks are available, I will share them with you here.
The collage shows the stage and the host, Professor Gillian Rose; Gillian asking a question from one of the speakers at the end of his presentation; and the finale. You will note a red round rug - that is where each speaker had to stand and give their talk. Large gives more close-up detail.
