Had the most wonderful morning after a chance meeting with the Manager of a local quarry whilst on a wildlife walk. He invited us to the quarry and then gave us the grand tour – and a free coffee !
This part shown has been set aside for Sand Martins to nest in. It is their chosen site so the machinery now has to avoid the area and the piles of gravel in front protect the nests.

Amongst the resident birds within the working quarry are Barn Owls, Little Owls, Jackdaws, Oyster Catchers, Lapwing, Heron and Curlew. Altogether over 200 species of bird have been recorded. This is a true partnership between industry and nature. Many thanks Tim for all the hard work by your team.
