Always expect the unexpected

Another lovely day in Cumbria. Started with a visit to Stagshaw Gardens (NT again!), on the banks of Windermere - totally beautiful. Then to Townend; an old farm house (more NT), full of history and beautiful furniture.
Then a stop for picnic, in the car as it was pretty damp, in a car park at the bottom of Toms Gill. JP had a look at the map and thought it would be a good idea to follow the 'footpath' up Toms Gill to Tarn Howes. I thought I was in for a nice drive to Hawkshead!! We climbed the waterfall!! up to the Tarns then thought it would be a good idea to climb up the hill behind the Tarn to get a photo. Oh my! Quite a climb but worth every step. Stunning! Then another walk around the tarn and back down the Gill.
We eventually got to Hawkshead in time for afternoon tea :).
