Blowing a hoolie
What a wild weekend! We dropped everything and headed off in gale force winds on saturday to Baltimore for the annual Fiddle Fair. What a treat and what a variety of artists. We saw four different bands in the marquee which was flapping and roaring and at times competing with the music. As one artist said it was like being in the Tall Ships Race.
First up was some Appalachian flat footing followed by some wonderful Shetland fiddling from RANT ; in the evening This is how we Fly - superb quartet including percussion dancing, and finally three insane MancuniansThe New Rope String Band. We staggered in at 2am and I failed to make it back to the flat footing workshop this morning, tempting though it was. I did go to a history talk at the Kilnaruane stone this afternoon though. It was scheuled for 2.30. Nothing ever starts on time here and I lingered not wanting to be too English and too punctual and rolled up at 2.15. The talk was almost over! Other people wandered up on time but too late, he'd done the business and was ready to move on to the second venue - a high vantage point over Bantry where we stood buffeted by the winds and gazed at the wonder of drumlins until a heavy downpour stopped play. All a bit odd.
It's still blowing a hoolie but the light is amazing.
A backblip too of the awesomely named and awesomely talented Caoimhín O Rallaghaigh.
If you can only face one link try RANT!
