bird bath

Today is my brother's birthday, and the first time in years that he has been home to celebrate it. He has spent quite a number of birthdays as a marine stationed around the world; the last one saw him in Iraq. While we are super proud of him for serving his country, we are even happier to have him home with us.

My mother taught us that no matter how simple or fancy your dinner, always have a pretty centerpiece. I love that piece of advise, mostly because it makes you turn even the most mundane and regular of events into a celebration. That's my mother for you...continually trying to make the world beautiful for us.

It was my job to find the something pretty to put on the table for the birthday boy's dinner. Unfortunately, while I did not find anything green or gracefully decayed, I did come across this reflection in the bird pond. I liked the flipped perspective, and decided that getting my blip for the day counted as a successful outdoor adventure. As for the centerpiece, I made some flowers out of construction paper. They looked perfect!
