Giro Big Finish!
After years of hurtling around Dublin on a bike, it was pretty obvious where the best vantage point for the Giro would be - nasty chicane half way up the final sprint, with only 350m from here to the finish line!
I was expecting this corner to be packed out by guys with official jackets and big lenses, so I got in early to endure 3 1/2 hours of waiting, rain, coffee, rain, annoying music, rain, weird vantage points, rain, annoyed Dubs who couldn't work out that "big bike race through the city" means they can't cross the road right here, rain, confused tourists trying to work out how they get to their hotel on the other side of the road, rain and finally two shots of the leaders before the guy in front of me started lifting his head into the shot!
I should point out the running order;
Hagen (Sky - came 6th) in the lead, then Michel Koch (Canondale - came 54th! WTF?) on the right trading elbows with teammate Elia Viviani (remained 3rd). Then Ben Swift (Sky - second by a wheel width!) on the inside, ahead of David Appollonio (Ag2r La Mondiale - 4th) and Tom Veelers (Giant - 20th) lurking at the back! Marcel Kittel who won was four riders back from this bunch rounding the corner!
There are a few alternatives here. The MAMIL fraternity might want to wait until they're alone before looking!
