Scott's Wintry View

We hadn't actually gone out in the car looking specifically for snow, but the further away from the Forth we got the more we found. Culminating in a wonderful sight from Scott's eponymous viewpoint. A climb slightly further also yielding some wintry hares...

I actually enjoy driving on the snow - it keeps you thinking, and as long as you know what you're doing it can be great fun. Mind you, you've still got everyone else to worry about. Ended up slowed down even more when we got a puncture. The run flats seemed to be doing their job, but the possibility of not getting it seen to till Saturday was looming large. But the Mini/BMW garage was still open, and the closest option for us. Half an hour later and we were out the door a lot lighter in the pocket, but more sure-footed on the road.

"Did you hit something?" we were asked. "A pothole yesterday, ruddy great big one," was the answer. "Ah, that'll be it, there was a tear in the sidewall this big." The 'this' referred to was 2 to 3 inches long - the run flat had held out as long as it could, but today proved just a bit too much for it.

Time for an invoice to the Council I think - the pothole being on a narrow bit of unlit road where if traffic is coming the other way (as it was) there was simply no chance of missing it (unless you have night-vision goggles and are driving at 5pmh or so). As it was this was all at a lowly 20mph or so. I'll get a photo of the pothole tomorrow to see if it's worth flagging up.

Anyway, it could all have been annoying, but was settled in a manner that should allow a gentle easing into 2010 (another arbitrary point in the sand at which life may, for some reason, be seen to change) - so have a great Hogmanay, and an even better 2010!
