On the Road......
Up before daybreak, bags packed, chilly bin loaded with food and the car packed to the rafters - well not quite but no room for hitchhikers, we're on holiday at last. A day of travel, receiving texts from our beautiful daughters for Mother's Day, a blip meet with long time blip friend Rainie and husband Doug and dinner out - what an awesome day!
The time simply flew when we were with Rainie and Doug, it felt like we'd been friends forever but it was only the second time Rainie and I had met, the first being at the first Christchurch Blipmeet four years ago, when we were newbies to blip. Thank you for such an enjoyable three hours, it really was great to see you again and to meet Doug :)
After leaving Rainie and Doug we continue to head south, stopping by a small town called Waimate where we found this flour mill.
Built in 1890, the mill produced a range of products including flour which won awards at the Anglo-Japanese exhibition, London, 1910, at the Festival of Empire, London, 1911 and at the Auckland Exhibition 1913-14.
The building is a Class C Historic Place under the District Plan (not NZHPT), and the Waimate District Council is considering an application for its demolition. The flour mill silos, obscured behind, are Class A and are still standing.
As the sun was setting we arrived at our final destination for a few nights, a little fishing village called Moeraki. We have a small elevated apartment called The Loft with views over the harbour. Across the road is Fleur's Place, the well known seaford restaurant and where we dined. Fleur welcomed us and looked after us, such a lovely lady, quietly spoken, interesting and informative, the food was divine! I will blip Fleur's Place before we leave, it simply oozes with character.
Time now to turn out the lights, its been an awesome Mother's Day!
