Life through the lens...

By ValC

Lilac time.

The cherry trees are over, and now the lilacs are in bloom.
As with every thing else this year, the are just full of flowers.

The lilacs always remind me of my mum.
One of her favourite composers was Ivor Novello.
He wrote the musical " Perchance to Dream", which opened at the Hippodrome in London in 1945.
"We'll gather lilacs in the spring again" , was the hit song from the show, and my mums favourite.
Written as World War Two came to it's close, the song describes the yearning for parted couples to be reunited with their loved ones once again, and the pleasures of the English countryside in Spring.

It was performed at Novello's cremation in 1951, and played at my mum's, when she died in 2008.
