Lettuce or Triffid?

It must be down to the weather conditions for some Lettuce planted in the greenhouse towards the end of March have grown at an astonishing rate and now are about 2 feet across. (A gardening glove gives an indication of scale.) Despite the size the Lettuce is tender with a good flavour.A lazy blip today on account of frequent heavy showers.
