watch the birdies
which is what we spent a fair amount of today's walk on the beach doing (in between looking for coal). all just out of reach of the camera lens for decent portraits, but still. flurries of oystercatchers and plovers on the seaweed and out on the rocks, and alongside a swarm of sanderlings at the waters' edge, all clockwork legs and running away from the waves, then running back to see what the waves brought up. hilariously cute. and wandering around among them was this elegant chap, a lonely lapwing flashing his crest around.

chilly shots of northumberland begin back here, btw.
