Mountains and Mountains of Fish

I'm briefly back in Svolvær gradually retracing my steps back to the south.

It's coming to the end of the stockfish drying season in Lofoten. In Å lots of the drying racks had already been cleared. Around Svolvær it looks as if most of the racks are still full.

The racks in this image are covered with dried cod heads which I'm told get shipped off to various African countries. The rest of the cod either gets used locally or is shipped to Spain, Portugal or Italy.
