BOMB ALERT- EVACUATE!!!!!
I had thought that I was getting up to just a very ordinary day and having to do some gardening for a change.
I had done some weeding and cut the hedges then the other half said that the plant that we had in a pot should be planted out by the gate.
In the middle of digging the hole for the plant I noted that the bank across the road (this was about 3 in the afternoon) had locked the doors and customers were somewhat perplexed that they could not get in.
I called out to one gent asking what was going on and he informed me that customers were not being allowed in due to a ‘security issue’ but the staff would not elaborate at this point.
Soon after I heard in the distance the sound of an emergency vehicle which was coming to the bank.
Then the bomb disposal team arrived and I went and spoke to the staff who were outside and was informed that there was a suspect item that had been left inside.
Shortly after the other half came back and found another police vehicle in front of the gate.
The officer advised her that she could go indoors but should go to the rear of the house and not look out of the front windows.
A few minutes later we had a knock on the door and a police officer suggested that we might like to vacate the property and go to the nearby ‘Shiloh’ Baptist church until the suspect item was dealt with.
We went out to find that the road had been cordoned off and went to the church along with other neighbours where we spent about an hour until being told that it was now safe to go back home.
This picture was taken from the upstairs window just after the bomb disposal van had arrived – you can see my wheel barrow in the gateway where I had been working where it remained until we returned back home.
What excitement!!
And its only Monday!
