Such a skulker is the Common Yellowthroat that this is in fact the first decent photo I've ever gotten of this species. It's a wood warbler that prefers the safety of dense marshy brush--too bad for us because it's a very striking masked avenger-type bird. This male was briefly out in the open to proclaim his territory and attract a lady with his cheery and emphatic singing.
