Ring of Brodgar

The Ring of Brodgar is at the heart of the Neolithic World Heritage Site on Orkney.

Today the Scottish Parliament's Education and Culture committee were in Orkney to visit a number of historic sites and talk to local stakeholders about their views of the Historic Environment (Scotland) bill.

Unfortunately our flight to Kirkwall was delayed which resulted in us having to miss out on our planned visit to Maeshowe Chambered Cairn. However we did go to Skara Brae, which is one of the best preserved group of prehistoric houses in Western Europe.

In addition we had a quick stop at the Ring of Brodgar, which is one of the finest stone circles to be found anywhere in the world. In the end I chose this picture of the Ring of Brodgar as it not only shows some of the standing stones, but also shows what a glorious day it was in Orkney today.
