Itoh Peony

Itoh peonies are hybrids between the familiar herbaceous peonies and the more exotic tree peonies. Sometimes called intersectional peonies, they are perennial, but have strong stems for the flowers and tree peony-like leaves. This one, ‘Julia Rose,” is an interesting flower. The buds are red, they open to a deep brunt-rust orange and as they mature, turn to a pink salmon, and eventually yellow. The semi-double flowers are long-lasting and prolific once the plant has settled in and also make good cut flowers.
