Chlorophyll/Global Warming 2
Our house is walking a fine line between shade and sun. How many trees can you have on a city lot and still grow a few vegetables and have clear sky for solar panels. If I count all my trees, including a lilac that got too tall, and the fruit trees which I try and keep small,I have eleven -this maple, two unidentified ash or elms, two plums, three pears and one ornamental pear, a Japanese maple scavenged from a neighbor, and a red ornamental cherry which I don't enjoy except it blocks the view of cars coming down the street. I love all my trees because they are my little effort in the battle against rising CO2 levels.
Today we heard that the Antarctic ice shelf is inevitably breaking up. the good news is that it will take a couple of hundred years. The bad news is that by the end of the century, the sea level will be raised by several feet.
New York Times Article. Isn't it funny that we try and leave our mark on the world, to be remembered, but it is terribly hard to motivate us to do anything that might help the future generations if it will inconvenience us. So I tend my trees.
