Black cumin

Nature protects
The healing seeds
With beauty,
Grace
And breathtaking imagination.

A phoographic meet up today at the Chelsea Physic Garden, a delightful treasure trove founded in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries for its apprentices to study the medicinal qualities of plants. Heaven for me. We were practising macro shots with and without flash, concentrating both on the subject and the background. One of my favourites of the day is this image of Nigella sativa (related to Nigella damascena or love-in-a-mist), otherwise known as black cumin. Its seeds are beneficial for the digestive system, and possibly for asthma and diabetes.

An earlier ode to herbs - Dew of the Sea.
