If you can't beat them...

Do you want to buy a mountain?

Another shot of one of my favourite mountains which just
happens to be up for sale. So if you happen to have an odd
£1,750,000 that you weren't sure what to spend it on, here
is a suggestion. You will get 2,500 acres of beautiful
mountain and the right to call yourself Lord of the manor of
Threlkeld.

When the current owner's father died in 2006 he was faced
with death duties of £9million and 10 years to pay. There
are only 18 months left and still a couple of million or so
to raise, so for the first time in 400 years the mountain is
up for sale. The owner expects it to be bought by a Russian
or Chinese person which I am afraid as far as I am
concerned would be a shame. At least they can't remove it
from the country.

Blencathra is often called Saddleback as from almost any
angle the skyline has a distinctive dip like the centre of
a saddle. In case anybody hasn't spotted it its on the
skyline around the right hand thirds line.

How did I come to be roaming around that part of the countrys
ide? Well I wasn't looking at the mountain with a view to
buying unfortunately. CC had some things to drop off with a
lady in one of the local villages ready for a church fund
raising event in a few weeks time, so I took the opportunity
of getting a blip of the mountain (again).
