Day 34 of 365: Sicko

I don't get sick very often. When I had my retirement physical from the Army, the doctor looked at my thin record and asked where the rest of it was! For the past two weeks, I have not been able to shake this nasty cough. This morning I called and got a same-day appointment. The doctor told me I have bronchitis and possibly a mild case of pneumonia. He ordered chest X-rays and blood tests and gave me antibiotics. I spent the day at home sleeping and recovering. What really made me feel good was to know that my health care works. The bill from today? Free. My 20 years in the Army gives me free health care. I wish the entire U.S. population could enjoy the same benefit. Universal health care should be a right of citizenship. We would all be better off if we looked after each other instead of enriching the health care and insurance industries. But, that is a debate for another day... right now I need to get better.
