Cafe Society
A very variable day today on the weather front. We had to go into Como as my companion was going to Malpensa to return to the UK for a couple of days. We took the slow ferry from Lenno to Como, on the jetty we were sitting in the sun, but once on the boat we lost the sunshine and it became quite cool so after sitting outside initially we went inside for the most of the trip.
On arriving at Como it was just starting to rain, we had decided to have lunch at one of the cafes in a very picturesque Piazza near the Cathedral (Piazza San Fedele). By the time we had got there we had stopped to shelter under a shop awning, I had bought an umbrella from one of the street vendors and was feeling very under dressed. Most people were covered up with warm coats or sweaters, I was in shirt sleeves.
The cafe we had chosen (pictured) had no tables available under cover so we returned to the Cathedral Square where we had a pleasant lunch. While we were having lunch there was another downpour but our table was more or less under cover. In the later afternoon I returned to Lenno by bus. By this time the weather seemed to have cleared, and so although I was still under dressed I was not too cold.
Sometimes "cafe society" has its limitations, even in a warm climate if it is slightly out of season.
