Pendle Hill

My Great Grandfather used to shoot over this moor, and I have his pewter powder flask still.

We were driving home after visiting friends from the West Riding, and, after a real storm of rain in Colne, couldn't resist the brightening skies over Pendle and then over the lovely Trough of Bowland.

By the way, we noticed no witches in Pendle. For me, Pendle's significance doesn't lie in the witch saga, but in its history, medieval and 16th century particularly. But I caught site of a ruin which might just possibly have been the Malkin Tower where Old Mother Demdike lived. NB If you want to read a first class and very well-written novel about the subject, try Robert Neill, Mist over Pendle.
