Baby coots on nest

I do love recently hatched coots - they look so punky, so comical. Mom just left the nest for a moment and I was able to see six little hatchlings. Coots often kill part of their hatch - it seems the effort of looking after so many is too much for them - so some of these may not be long for the world. At least they should be safe from foxes for the time being.
