My Grandfather was a veteran of the First World War, especially at the Battle of the Somme, where he went ' over the top' with the Accrington Pals and miraculously. survived. Consequently my Grandmother had a horror of red and white flowers placed together as they reminded her of blood and bandages. However, these flowers together were very beautiful despite the connotations.
