Bald Eagle

One Street

If you look very closely at yesterday's blip you can see today's bridge, Thomasons, in the background. There is an overgrown lane which takes you down from the road and over this bridge. I parked by yesterday's bridge and walked along the towpath to take this photograph.

I preferred this shot of it with the light, shadows and trees. The canal bends as it passes under this bridge and on the side of the bridge are deep grooves. These would have been worn into the soft sandstone by the towropes as the horses pushed the barges along the canal.

When you look at this bucolic scene it is hard to imagine the noisy, bustling thoroughfare this would once have been.

If you would like to see the bridge from the other side and the towrope grooves look here.

I hope that you are not tiring of all these bridges. The next one along is not as pretty.
