No 11. Marston to Rimpton circuit
The final field on the circuit lies behind Marston Magna Church and is called Court Field or more commonly The Moat Field. It is thought that a manor house was sited here in the 11th and 12th centuries and that it was surrounded by a moat either for security or for prestige purposes. You can see the moat turning a corner in this shot. At the far end of the field the outline of a fishpond can also still be viewed. I presume the fish would have been for the table, nothing so frivolous as hobby fish in those days!
