Dreams do come true
Not very often do you experience something truly amazing else it wouldn't be that amazing would it? Today though i can honestly say i have had the privilege of witnessing and also being part of something amazing... i helped deliver a baby! It was quite a normal delivery, i did not know this woman sadly; i would have loved to have gone through the whole painful journey with her but that is not the fillipino way and there was a slight language barrier. She handled the whole process beautifully and i was immensely proud of her.
Contractions were coming in thick and fast, she was fully dilated and ready to push so she was put into the delivery chair with stirrups. Very odd contraption really and not too comfy i wouldnt think. The midwife told me to put on my sterile gloves which is a skill i have yet to accomplish and after a few minutes it all started quickening and i then helped get the baby's head to pop out (not going to go into too much detail!) That was unbelievable to watch and i was quietly cheering the baby on- with every push the mother gave, the baby came closer to entering the world it was so beautiful im nearly crying writing this!
After what seemed like an eternity the baby came free from its mother and i was able to guide it out! It started crying almost immediately which was a really good sign! Not being biased or anything but it was the most beautiful baby whom I've called Helen Junior even though it was a boy.
I can't quite believe I've done it, its too surreal and too wonderful to put into words really. I shall remember this forever and hopefully tell my children one day what it was like to deliver my first baby.
Sorry if its really mushy i just wanted to share this with you all because i can't contain my happiness!!
P.s. there's me with the little stunner! He was absolutely tinsey tiny (more beautiful close up :-))
