135/365 HOME in Bridport

135/365 Bridport Arts Centre If some remember my photo of the day 22nd March was my entry for an exhibition to be held at Bridport Arts Centre called HOME in Bridport a project to show what the town means to people. Now I must be honest here I received an email inviting me to the opening night as my photo had been chosen for part of the exhibition, I went along last night to have a look and to be very honest after seeing my shot as part of an A4 montage with 10 or so others and condescending words that I felt were saying this is the best locals could do, now compare with the rest done by members of the HOME in Bridport project. I left after a few minutes feeling pretty pissed off with life. A lot of these photo’s were done by people who seemed to have moved to the my home town and were showing how clever they all were compared with us yokels !!.
Anyway having slept on it I revisited the exhibition this morning when not so many back slappers around, having spent time working my way around the room I discovered that yes there were exhibits from newcomers to town but also local school children had taken part and at least 1 person I actually knew was a subject, still think the “local” A4 was poorly presented but on reflection the majority of the exhibition was good. So apologies for my rant and perhaps a lesson learnt, I must count to 10 before making snap judgements. (on the bright side at least I did not leave a scathing comment in the visitors book before I left last night).
