Bird strike

Whilst walking round Saltram Park with M we noticed a Magpie trying to retrieve something from the grass verge. As we waited, it pulled a Slow worm (Anguis fragilis - I only know because I looked it up ) onto the path and proceeded to peck away at it. The Slow worm coiled up I suppose as a defines mechanism, but eventually under a bit of an onslaught by the bird it uncoiled and the Magpie flew off with it to a nearby tree. Never seen that happen before.
