The new heart of Paris / La Canopée in Les Halles

That's the title of the official website presenting the large redevelopment project of Les Halles, the former central market center in Paris. The first market shelters go back to 1183, were transformed during the centuries up to 1971, when the marketplace was demolished and replaced with an underground shopping centre (directly connected to metro & trains, being the largest hub in town).

The building of the new project started in 2011 and will bring back by 2016 the aboveground portion of Les Halles. It is this curvilinear building, called La Canopée (the canopy), which name is inspired by plant life.
