Charlotte Asser
Today we visited the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, this is our first visit because for most of the time we have lived in the Netherlands, the museum has been closed for renovation.
Of all the amazing and astonishing pictures that were on display this tiny portrait of a little girl caught my attention more than anything else.
It was part of an exhibition of about 8 small photographs accompanied by an opening note to remind the visitors that all of the subjects in the photographs had lived their lives and are now dead. The note itself was part of the so called Art is Therapy notation of the exhibits which are designed to make people think about their visit to the museum in a different way.
This portrait is Charlotte Asser taken by her father Eduard Asser, and early professional portrait photographer. Sad to think this tiny girl is already dead, sadder to find out that she died before her father at the young age of 43.
