Guided bat hunt

Back from holidays :( Tonight went on a guided walk with a bat expert to Gibside. We used these bat detectors to pick up the sound that they make that we are unable to hear with our ears due to the frequency. We saw and heard loads of bats and learned about lots of different types (8 different types in this area) and how to differentiate them by their sound, appearance, flight pattern and habitat. It was fascinating! Unfortunately, I couldn't get a photo as it was dark and we needed to use red torches to see the bats (they don't like the white torches but red doesn't bother them as much) and they are also very, very fast as well!
