Columbia Gorge #2: Bluffs

Today was spent talking with my mom and brother and relaxing. This afternoon we visited a few of the local wineries. Columbia Gorge wineries are known for their refined and subdued varietals, particularly gerwerztraminers and pinot noirs - in similar fashion to Alsatian wines. The very cool winters with hot, dry summers produce some wonderfully lighter wines, particularly as compared to the full bodied and highly complex reds of the Sierra foothills wineries of California.

This Columbia River is the border between Oregon and Washington. The area is composed of volcanic rock with wonderful cliffs and bluffs. The famous Columbia Gorge is known for the beautiful rock formations and cliffs. This shot was taken at one of the wineries we visited, about 20 miles east of the Gorge, on the Washington side looking to the west towards the Gorge. The high winds prevented all but the briefest of shots.

Update on my brother - all seems to be normal. We shall see how his tests come out in a couple of weeks.

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!

Backblip from yesterday: Arrival - which explains why we are here.
