No lone trees

around here.

The one lone tree around here was at the turn off for Vernon opposite Midway, which is now closed. The Highway department wanted to fell it: the locals said,"NO!" several times. The sneaky ADOT felled it early one morning.

When driving along US60 the tree stood at the top of a gentle rise; one had the impression the tree was in the middle of the road. ADOT's reasoning was that someone might commit suicide by deliberately driving into it. There had been an incident when a man deliberately drove into the back of a truck/lorry (eighteen wheeler) because he was so depressed about his medical diagnosis. The highway patrol estimated he was driving in excess of 100 mph.
