Wet Burn
Ginny had had some trees cut down and wanted to have a bonfire with the brush. Today was the day! Eight o'clock, the phone rang. She had the permit and 9:00 was the starting time. Rick and I donned our rain gear and arrived to a downpour. We didn't know if this would go. Ginny was prepared with dry kindling. Rick brought lighter fluid, rakes and gloves. He poured oil and fluid on the box, placed it under the brush and ignited it! Off it went. Rick circled the pier adding more and more branches on top. Ginny and I went in to get more dry wood. Five pieces did the trick. The flame grew to 10 feet at one point as the rain continued! We were soaked, but the warmth of the fire kept us comfortable. We watched and fed it until 1:30. It was at a point where Rick said it would be fine, continue to burn for a while and go out on its own. Ginny would keep watch. We were amazed at how we were able to diminish that huge pile in just a few hours! Our big project for the day was a good deed! I shivered all the way home and was thankful for a hot shower! Making memories today was fun!
