Colour or mono
It may not seem much, but this is a big step for me. My first mask layer without having a book or magazine holding my hand through the process. To be quite frank I learnt more without them! Maybe I will get a chance to spend some more time working out how to get more out of PSE, but between project managing a garage build, taming an unruly garden, walking dog, not to mention picture framing, chores, oh and of course work, it might be awhile before I conquer my next PSE summit!
Anyway it struck me that this image shouts out to me to use mono more. In colour this is dull, but somehow mono brings another dimension.
I did a City and Guilds in photography years ago at evening class. I did ok in the colour "term", even processing my own slides and getting to play with medium format. But the mono "term" was a different affair. I spent an afternoon in Kew Gardens - a great opportunity to get some nice plant shots. I think some of the shots were ok, but I had to print them by hand, in my bathroom, whilst my flat mate was out. The results were agricultural to say the least - very muddy! I passed but only just.
Thank goodness for digital. I am finally learning how to see in black and white. Well at least know what shape the histogram seems to work ok. I might even manage to get a decent print or two.
