Impromptu Sardane
Today was the 40th anniversary of the village club de l'amitié. There were six walks organised in the morning which people could choose and exhibitions of all the club activities on offer followed by a long lunch. Afterwards, some people got up to dance the traditional Catalan Sardane. It has little movement but very complicated steps. It is very popular but I do not rate it as a spectacle! It is supposedly a dance of great nationalism and solidarity. It was banned by the Nazis during the war as the steps were considered to be a possible form of coded communication to the resistance fighters looking down from the hills.
