Spot-the-bees
A swarm of bees opposite our house hung from a bush over the pavement as we arrived home from church this morning. The surrounding neighbours were rather rattled. The cops had been called (massive over reaction from first cop) the tape was put up and said cop stood guard for over 2 hours! (I say 'cop' as a second police officer was also involved who was from New York, complete with accent.) The pest controllers had been called to no avail, thankfully! So I stepped in. My Grandad, Dad and brother used to keep bees so, for once, I had knowledge to help and a brother to call for advice. Once the surrounding neighbours and police officer had been calmed and a 'swarm catcher' contacted we all settled down for the spectacle. The chidlers ate their dinner sitting on the front wall, the events were recorded by Miss B in her notebook, the newly-met neighbours all felt camaraderie, one lady gave the kids ice lollies, it was a great atmosphere.
Brian the swarm catcher arrived (pictured), a local bee keeper who was in with a treat (a swarm in May is treasure to any bee keeper) he was a really nice guy, lovely to meet. Brian did his thing and all was well. We even got a free pot of local honey!
Quite oddly Master B asked to build a bee hive a couple of days ago. These prophetic instances have happened before...
