The End of the World
Well, the end of the United (soon to be Un-United if Salmond gets his way) Kingdom.
What will we call ourselves? The Partially United Kingdom? And what if Shetland and Orkney claim independence from Scotland?
Ridiculous.
Anyway, on a lighter note, this is the top end of the current UK coming in from the North East and looking west. That's Unst - top of the Shetland Isles, and the most difficult and yet perhaps the most beautiful one to get to. There's great cliff walks and bird watching to be done, and some gloriously sandy clean beaches to camp next to, as well as the fabulous hotel/ self-catering at the old RAF base at Saxaford which is just out of shot to the left (obviously) of this picture.
Muckle Flugga Lighthouse is on the little string of islands in the far distance beyond the mainland. Here's a close-up...
Well worth a visit.
