Hoopoe
We saw a gorgeous cheetah on the road today, but this photo of the hoopoe was my favourite.
We were on a shocking sand road down to the third Jock of the Bushveld plaque, in the Kruger Park, when we spotted him. There were no animals to be seen at the plaque. One hour later, I got a text from my brother C, to say he and my parents had seen a leopard in exactly the same spot we had been. Another hour later, we returned to the same spot, to find ... absolutely nothing again.
And so it goes in Kruger. It's about being in the right place at the right time to spot the amazing animals and birds. And what keeps us driving, is that you never know what is around the next corner...
Today we also saw elephant, rhino, buffalo, plenty of the other more common things like zebra, giraffe and kudu. We also sat and watched a hamerkop that had caught a small barbel. He spent ages tenderising his meal, but flew with it before he swallowed it.
